DHARAMSHALA: Kangra, the most populated district of
HimachalPradesh, has crossed the mark of 100 patients infected with coronavirus. It is the highest number in the state. Health authorities have found that out of the total number of patients 78% are male patients.Most of them have travelled from Delhi and Maharashtra. First two cases of Covid-19 in this hill state were witnessed in this district only. Most affected age group is 21 to 40 years.
Chief medical officer Gurdarshan Gupta told TOI that medical teams deployed to deal with the patients have to face many challenges with respect to their working hours and quarantine themselves to safeguard their families also.
“We are the first in Himachal to deal with the Covid-19 patients, both of them recovered. Our teams are doing very well right from the diet of the patients and medication which is playing an important role in recovery of patients” he added.
Out of total infected persons with Covid-19, 31% were from the service sector and the other 66% were employed while the rest were housewives, retired personnel and students.
In the number of cases found positive of Covid-19 had travelled from Maharashtra (38%), Delhi (38%), Gujarat (5%), Punjab (3%), and Chandigarh (2%).
Only 1% of the cases each were reported who had come from Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Religious gatherings while the rest were their primary contacts.
Out of these cases, 87% of the cases that were diagnosed positive were quarantined in various institutions across the district.
Out of 100 cases in this district 59 have recovered and have been discharged back to home, 40 cases are still active.
Community spread has not yet been documented in Kangra district. Health experts here said that social distancing and personal hygiene are the only recommended measures that can help to stay protected from coronavirus.
India reported its first case January 30, 2020. There have been more than 7.6 million cases worldwide till now. Total number of confirmed cases in India so far is reaching near three lakhs and on the rise. Covid-19 has been declared pandemic by WHO. Total number of cases in Himachal Pradesh has crossed the mark of 430.
